Settled in my new home
Whoa, long time no write! People keep bugging me to update my site, but as I wrote on the about this weblog page, I don’t plan to write much here until I really start travelling. Besides, all the best stories are better told in person :)
It’s been a great month! I moved into my sweet new pad on Mar 1, and went out that night with my new roommates to see Perry Farrell. Pretty crazy night… it reminded me of the movie Go, without the guns.
Since then I have been alternately boarding and working, depending on weather and snow conditions. I have been trying to get most of my work week out of the way by Tuesday so I can relax and spend the rest of the week riding without guilt.
I haven’t been boarding as much as I expected — only 12 days in March. I think after having a few good powder days and days with clear blue skies I’m spoiled already; now if the conditions aren’t great I just stay home and work.
But my boarding is coming along nicely — I can ride pretty much anywhere now including double black diamonds; the only stuff that really slows me down are tight tree runs. And my conditioning has improved a lot, so I can ride all day without stopping. Last Saturday was my biggest day yet — 8 hours straight including a 45 min hike up to Flute bowl, stopping for just 15 mins for some snacks. I was completely spent afterwards.
I think my calorie intake has doubled since I moved here! I just keep eating and eating, and I’m never full. I can have a massive plate of pasta, and an hour or two later I’m hungry again.
No bad injuries yet — in fact most of my injuries so far have been sustained on the trampoline in the back yard, not on the mountain. Right now I’m recovering from a bit of whiplash incurred on a spill on the mountain the other day (caught an edge and fell backwards, smacking my head and biting my tongue.) Nothing too painful, just a really sore neck. I think I’ll be over it in a couple days.
It definitely feels like spring here in the village; I think most of the snow will be gone within a week or so. I’m actually really excited for summer to arrive… mountain biking, BBQs…
I am super happy with my living space; if I had to design the perfect place for me right now, this would be pretty close. It would be nice if there were a bit more soundproofing between my room and the home theatre room directly below, but otherwise it’s awesome. Fun roommates, fantastic bedroom and kitchen, massive DVD library, lots of exposure to new music, etc.
I haven’t been getting out as much as I would like lately; most of my roommates either work in the evening or can’t afford to go out. Might have to start heading out on my own…
That’s it for now!
