Weird ATT Global password issue

Hi folks,

On Friday afternoon, I tried to connect from LGA airport
to my ATT Global account. When connecting from the Linux
side of my laptop, I would get the following messages
in /var/log/messages:

  Connect: ppp0 <--> /dev/ttyLT0
Remote message: !Error 32 Incorrect password.

(/dev/ttyLT0 is a winmodem, but I had the same problem with
 a PCMCIA non-winmodem).

I called ATT Global, had them try different passwords, but
no luck. I was certain (to the extend that I can be) to
be using the correct user info and password in /etc/ppp/pap-secrets.

I rebooted in Win2k and had no problems connecting to the
same account, same password.

I have used this dialup script (pon and company) for
some time without seeing this problem. I haven't tried to
dial up from my apartment.

Anyone have any clues? In a moment of conspiracy theory,
I thought it was an anti-Linux thing, but I suspect
it's just a configuration issue. And yet my configuration
used to work.
