Another factor which can help you go to the top is to post in mailing
lists. You have the URI of your home page in your signature, mailing
lists are usually archived publicly and have various linked to them, so
every time you send an email you improve your ranking. It's time to
start mail flooding!

Regarding Google being the best search engine out there, it's generally
true, except when you want to do very precise queries. In that case, I
use Raging Search[1] which is pretty cool IMO (no banner, Lynx-friendly,
highly configurable, large index, powerful AltaVista Search's syntax).

It claims[2] to have a ranking algorithm Google-like but the results
given are often really different. Its grouping capabilities are not as
good as Google's either.
