• VirtualTourist may be useful; has tons of user-contributed content and interesting rating/discussion stuff; my account is gosko
• avoid Auto Europe for car rentals in Europe: I used to like them but they started spamming me
• National Geographic's 50 places of a lifetime may be a good place to get ideas
• UNESCO's World Heritage site list
• Goway for organized trips all over
• World66 "open content" travel guide
• Hospitality Club may be worth investigating
• backpacking the planet
