For Sale: 2001 Lexus IS300, $7950 (North Vancouver, Canada)

(all photos taken in November 2012)

Note: This vehicle is no longer available; it sold in 2013.

I am selling my 2001 Lexus IS300, which I bought new in March 2001. It has a blue exterior and beige leatherette/suede interior and every available option at the time of purchase including 17" low profile alloy wheels, 6-way power heated front seats (both driver and passenger side), moonroof, headlamp washers, etc.

It is rear wheel drive powered by a 215 hp 3.0L inline-6 engine, has a double wishbone suspension and limited slip differential. It's REALLY fun to drive, especially when ripping up the sea to sky to Whistler. But it's so comfortable it even makes sitting in traffic in the city much more enjoyable. (thanks in part to its factory 240 watt 8-speaker sound system, one of the best I have heard in any vehicle)

Major service less than 3000 km ago: new brakes, both front and rear (pads and rotors), new battery, wheel alignment, fluids flushed (brake, coolant, power steering), lubrication service, oil and filter changed, engine hot oil flush, new serpentine belt. (at a cost of $2600, mostly for the brakes. This car had the best brakes in its class when I bought it, rated better than BMW, Audi, Volvo, Saab -- they are fantastic)

This car has never been in a major collision. The worst things that have happened to it are: shortly after buying it I hit some ice and slid into a curb, damaging the right front wheel assembly; I had everything that was damaged replaced with new parts (at a cost of $3000) so the only lasting damage from that incident was that one of the wheels was scuffed up (no longer noticeable.) Also, 6+ years ago I backed into a construction fence someone had put at the end of my driveway, putting a big dent in the front left fender which I had replaced and carefully color matched, also no longer noticeable.

Also, I recently drove over a rock on the highway (I thought it was just a piece of snow) which knocked the steering out of alignment; I didn't get around to fixing that for a while because it still handled fine but the alignment issue caused the two front tires to wear more than usual, so they should be replaced soon. The two rear tires still have about 80% tread left. They are BFGoodrich G-Force super sports, 215/45ZR17 91W. I decided to leave the front tires as is to let the new owner decide what to do about them (personally I would just replace them with two that match ones on the back, but maybe you would prefer to get something cheaper or snow tires or something depending where you'll be driving it.) When I hit the rock on the highway it also damaged the in-dash 6-disc CD changer somehow, so only 4 or 5 of the slots work now. I didn't get that fixed because I don't use CDs any more (I use an ipod dock with fm transmitter that I'm happy to include, it just plugs into the cigarette lighter -- oh yeah, this car has never been smoked in.)

Those are the only major incidents this vehicle has been involved in. The body does have a few small scrapes that are mostly noticeable just after it has been washed; the worst is a big dent (maybe 3x4 inches) at the front of the hood where someone must have backed into me in a parking lot or something. It caused the hood to crack and has been rusting a bit; currently the rust spot is about the size of a quarter or so. It might be fixable; if not you might have to replace the hood. You can see the rust spot if you zoom in on this picture.

I had a hitch put on the back so I use a hitch-mounted bike rack; this hitch was custom welded for my car shortly after I bought it and it has become a bit rusty but I expect you could sand off the rust and treat it with something to make it look better. Or if you really don't want it there you could probably just cut it off.

The interior is in excellent condition, almost as good as new. The type of leather used for the seats is fantastic, much better than the cold slippery stuff used in most cars. I have had it serviced regularly and every drop of fuel has been premium/high-octane.

I LOVE this car and am reluctantly selling it only because I bought a truck last year to haul my snowmobile around so I can't really justify keeping my car any more. I feel like this car should be worth $15k+ (I paid $53k for it originally) but the going rate seems to be lower than that so I have priced it accordingly. I could go on at length about how awesome this car is: the windshield wipers are silent and work perfectly all the time; it handles and brakes like a dream; I have only had one minor issue with it in 10+ years of ownership: the sensor that turns on the interior light when you open the door once stopped working for a while. That's it. There's a reason Lexus has the best customer satisfaction in the business: their cars are near-perfect.

I live in Whistler full time but I have parked my car at a friend's place in north van and he has agreed to show it for me. Please email me at [email protected] for more info or to set up a time to view it.
