I went on a hiking trip in the Stein Valley with my roommate Eric, his friends Darren and Fish, and Fish's two dogs Nico and Biggs, from June 30 to July 3 2006.
We drove as far as we could up Blowdown Pass, scrambled up a nearby peak, then camped nearby on another before continuing down into the valley.
Due to a bit of goofing around when we arrived, time spent bushwhacking and some trouble with the dogs we only made it about 15km away from the truck before heading back, but I don't think my feet would have held out if we had gone further anyway.
The trail kept getting better and better the longer we continued; it would be great to do the whole valley someday. (but that would probably be a 7-day expedition)
Here are some of my photos:
We didn't see any other humans in the four days we were there, only a black bear, bobcat, goats and marmots. The weather was fantastic the whole time, maybe 25-30C and sunny during the day, and just a bit chilly at night.
I can't believe this amazing place is less than 100km from my new home :)
