I attended YAPC::NA (yet another perl conference, north america) in Montreal on June 13-15, 2001.
It was excellent, probably the best technical conference I have ever attended, and it was only $85 USD for three days!
YAPC is a conference series that offers an alternative to big expensive corporate conferences; it's run by Yet Another Society, a nonprofit led by Kevin Lenzo, the author of infobot and organizer of the first couple yapc conferences.
The highlight for me was Damian Conway's talk, "Life, the Universe, and Everything" (apparently delivered a number of times since); mp3 recording.
