notes on shmop.net

by Gerald Oskoboiny

I registered shmop.net and shmop.org, to be used as a mailing list/news archive site. (shmop.org will probably just redirect to shmop.net; shmop.com is already taken, though it doesn't seem to be in use)

Why "shmop"? shmop is one of my favorite unix words. It stands for "shared memory operations", a set of system calls with other cool names like shmat and shmget. (see the man page for shmop)

"shared memory operations" seems appropriate for a public archiving service (which I have been meaning to set up for a while), and "shmop.net" has such a nice ring to it...

(shmop.net isn't quite up yet, stay tuned)
