Notes on metaboards.com idea
by Gerald Oskoboiny
I recently registered metaboards.com
and metagroups.com
to use (eventually, maybe) as a
rating service for online discussion boards.
This page will keep track of misc related stuff.
(mainly for my own use)
- Online
Opinion: similar implementation, but requires sites to
subscribe to their service, and doesn't offer rating results to
end users.
- money.com: Insider's
guide to message boards:
Most boards are filled with irrelevant chatter, but there are
some pockets of community and civilized discussion if you know
where to look.
- tsrec.com seems to be a
metaboards-like site (well, kinda):
maybe talk to this guy about collaborating on metaboards.com?
- hmm... fool's URIs
might be parsable into board/msgnum
if I can figure out how that info is encoded in the URIs
(at the very least, it looks like the board info should be
available there)
- clickfeed seems
like a very good implementation of a similar idea (something I
thought metaboards/groups might eventually grow to become.)
Could steal/adapt their netscape
bookmark thing: user-friendly way of adding bookmarklets,
similar to my existing html validator, link checker, etc. ones.)

- BetterPosts:
"Discussion sites employing Slashcode or similar distributed
moderation rating schemes". Not much interesting there yet, but
the betterposts.com name seems like it aspires to be a
something along the lines of metaboards/groups.
- Slashdot
Moderation
- notes on message board software
- not at all related, but I want to keep track of this
somewhere: photo.net now has ratings on photos (sample)
