amazon.com launched a new feature today: they allow anyone to
search the full text of 120,000 books: 33 million pages that
they scanned manually. Googling for related news articles finds
this one, to appear in the Dec issue of Wired magazine:
The Great Library of Amazonia
by Gary Wolf
http://www.wired.com/news/print/0,1294,60948,00.html
which is pretty good reading. As usual, I read the whole thing
without keeping notes on the stuff I found interesting, and don't
feel like going through it again, sorry. I did make a few notes
on the amazon feature on today's #fogo weblog. [1]
I still can't decide what to do about #fogo/fogo integration:
would people be annoyed if I sent a daily dump of the weblog
to this list? Or anyone have better ideas?
I'm not too enthusiastic about the daily digest thing, but the
only alternative I can think of would be to send a dump of each
individual item that gets posted, maybe after an hour or two
after the item has received no further comments on the blog.
But lots of the items I tend to post are too trivial/lame to
send as separate email messages.
