I can do an indirection through people.w3.org but hesitated
to use the machine for accounts that are not mine.

For a simple alias and relaying it's fine imho, just don't hand out
accounts on this machine.  Fine to give accounts on non-shared
machines if you got one on our network imho although one is
responsible to MIT for their behavior.
