A group of 12 beginner ice climbers and 6 experienced members of the Ottawa section of the Alpine Club of Canada went out for a day of ice climbing in Gatineau Park on Saturday, Jan 11, 2003. We set up climbs on Cabin creek and some of the other walls near by. People enjoyed various challenges from the short low angle walking climb on the right, to the short vertical pitches in the middle, and cabin creek with it's low angle intermixed with some short vertical pitches. Near the end of the day, we ignored Dwight's advise (given to use several years back) about being delicate with the ice, and proceeded to bash off a row of icles to expose a nice overhang mixed rock and ice problem. Lots of fun was had by several climbers as then attempted to climb out of the overhanging ice cave with a rock roof onto the ice face above.
