Returned my Canon S500 to Future Shop since I haven't been that happy with the photos so far (turned out to be user error -- they added some more menus that weren't on my old S230); I wanted to wait to see what happened with my Canon S230 repair (turned out to cost more to fix than the camera is worth, as I expected); and because I can buy one for $100 less in the US, and I'm going to Boston at the end of Feb.

Bought a Canon 420EX flash from Future Shop for $350 CAD+tax, ~$310 USD total. (sells for $180 USD in the US, doh.) Wow, what a huge improvement over the built-in flash in my Canon Digital Rebel (and it can also be used with my old Canon G2); see sample photos.

Ordered a ClamperPod mini tripod ($12.95 USD) and Mini Ball Head ($12.95 USD), +$4.50 USD shipping. Received them on June 15. Quality seems excellent. Ball head is a Giotto MH 1004.

Ordered a Canon WP-DC600 waterproof case from YesMicro for $160 USD+$5 shipping. (actually, Ted ordered it for me because stupid american ecommerce sites don't accept Canadian credit cards for some reason.) I picked YesMicro because it was very positively reviewed on ResellerRatings; other places had slightly cheaper prices but got blasted on that site.

I bought a Velbon MAXi 343E tripod ($120 CAD+tax, at Future Shop)

Yesterday I bought a Slik Compact travel tripod at MEC, but I returned it and got the Velbon instead because it seems to have much better controls, has a ball head, and much more height. (at the expense of extra weight and length when compressed: 46cm/0.9kg vs 36cm/0.6kg of the Slik)

Someone paid me $250 USD to use this photo of the US capitol building in a catalog. I wonder if I can build up any kind of decent revenue stream from licensing my photos? (or maybe just make enough to pay for all these expensive toys?) (hmm... this entry isn't really camera-related; should move it somewhere else, but where?)

Bought a Canon PowerShot G2, woohoo! The G2 is a huge, huge improvement over my old Olympus, which I really liked; it's amazing what a difference a couple years (and twice the price) makes.

Before I bought the G2 I couldn't decide between it and the Canon S110 ELPH, which is good quality and about half the size of the G2. For a long time I thought my next camera would be one of the ELPHs due to their nice small size, but then I saw the specs for the G2 and read some glowing reviews, and decided to get one of those instead. I think I might still pick up an S110 to use in situations where the G2 is too big/bulky/expensive (e.g. in bars, on ski hills or at the beach.) (or even better, a Canon S200! Finally, a camera with an orientation sensor!)
